Velveeta Cheese Toasts

I hope my hubby is not offended by me saying this but... we have very different taste in foods. Like there was a time where he loved to spread strawberry cream cheese on a tortilla, top it with cooked bacon and cheddar cheese, and then roll it up and eat it.

Weird.

I know, right?

And there have been other things too.

This is a recipe that he has been begging me to try ever since we got married a year and a half ago. Plus a couple of weeks ago we were skyping with his parents and they mentioned that I should feature it on the blog.

So here. we. are.

I have to admit. I was skeptical about this combination at first. Even after the first bite all I could think was, "Hmmmmm... interesting".

I believe in second chances, so I went in for a second bite. Still very different.

Third time's the charm, right? It was.

Holy freaking awesome.

These french toast sandwiches are sweet and salty heaven. I am actually lost for words on how to describe them except that if you love the pairing of sweet and savory together you will love these. They kind of reminded me of a Monte Cristo sandwich (just a tiny bit).

But if you are going to try these you must follow these three rules.

#1- Put only one piece of cheese in between the bread. I tried one with two pieces and the balance of sweet and salty was way off (too salty). One piece of cheese my friends, one piece.

#2- Dunk each bite in homemade maple syrup. Don't use that crappy store-bought stuff (unless it is of course 100% real maple syrup- I suppose that would be good too).

#3- Take at least three bites before you turn these down.

I would actually love to try these with other kinds of cheeses in them too. Enjoy!
